ATTENTION Wal-Mart Shoppers: Chill Out

Today's "much ado about nothing" story:
An announcement at a Walmart store in New Jersey ordering black people to leave brought chagrin and apologies Wednesday from leaders of the company, which has built a fragile trust among minority communities.

A male voice came over the public-address system Sunday evening at a store in Washington Township in southern New Jersey and calmly announced: "Attention Walmart customers: All black people leave the store now."

Shoppers in the store at the time said a manager quickly got on the public address system and apologized for the remark. And while it wasn't clear whether a rogue patron or an employee was responsible for the comment, many customers expressed their anger to store management.

"I want to know why such statements are being made, because it flies in the face of what we teach our children about tolerance for all," said Sheila Ellington, of Monroe. She and her friend, Patricia Covington, were in the store at the time and have said they now plan to boycott the retailer.

Officials with Wal-Mart Stores Inc., based in Bentonville, Ark., said that the announcement was "unacceptable" and that they're trying to determine who made it -- whether an employee or a rogue patron -- and how it happened.

"We are just as appalled by this incident as our customers," the company said in a statement Wednesday. "Whoever did this is just wrong and acted in an inappropriate manner. Clearly, this is completely unacceptable to us and to our customers."

So, some idiot gets on the PA and makes a stupid announcement and suddenly Wal-Mart is a bastion of racism, worthy of a boycott? THIS is a national story? C'mon, people, let's all take a chill pill. This whole thing smells like a set-up by someone who wanted to create a controversy where none existed.

It's not that hard to find a store PA mic in a huge Wal-Mart and anyone could get on there and say something dumb. This isn't the first time and won't be the last. If you want to pay more for stuff somewhere else, go ahead and boycott, but it will be meaningless gesture.

I never cease to be amazed at the Huge Chip some people like to carry around on their shoulder. I would guess that most likely this wasn't even an employee of WalMart who made this announcement, most likely some idiot who knew where there was a PA Mike that they could get access to and make such a stupid announcement, it could have even been a former employee that wanted to "get even" with WalMart for some reason. It's like you said Rick, if it bother's a person that much, then go ahead and spend your money somewhere else!

I disagree, Goofy Dick. I would be offended deeply by something like that -- just like I'm offended by the race question on the Census. Evidently the ONLY thing Obama's government cares about is my race.

When I hear this, my first impulse is to ask: who benefits? The Lefties love the role of provocateur. And they hate Walmart.

Who are the real racists? Who benefits from the perception of racism? Who benefits by keeping blacks in a dependant minority role?

Leftists, Socialists.
