Nancy Pelosi - Catholic by Convenience

When issues of the lives of unborn babies are being decided, Nancy Pelosi is as Catholic as Osama bin Laden. However, when she wants to get her big government takeover completed, suddenly she's praying to dead saints:

Of course, as a non-Catholic I find the whole idea of sainthood ridiculous, not to mention the veneration of Jesus' human mother and the obsession with icons, idols and crucifixes, but to suggest that praying to some dead guy who did good things in life is a responsible approach to passing Obamacare is over the top even for Pelosi.

I'm wondering if this St Joseph is Mary's husband -- is it THAT Joseph? He, who was Jesus's protector? Recall the trip into Egypt to escape the slaughter of the innocents. Joseph took Mary and Jesus away to prevent young Jesus from being killed.

Joseph in Catholic thinking is also Mary's protector. Recall Mary was what we call today "an unwed mother" and Jesus was "an unplanned pregnancy." The testament says that Joseph upon learning of Mary's condition was going to quietly end their engagement. But he is told in a dream that Mary conceived by the Holy Spirit. And notably, he believed it. And instead of putting her aside, he marries and protects her.

And now Pelosi calls on Joseph to get her abortion bill passed? This is evil.

Nancy Pelosi's smug and phony religiosity is scary. How can she say this stuff? Does she doubt that God is real?

Rick, I'm serious -- we should pray for her.

I am not a catholic either (Used to be a Presbyterian, but they went off some place strange and declined to go. Married to an Episcopal Deacon now, and disagree with a lot of what they are doing.

But in the interest of historical accuracy, and I recognize that I am taking a pretty thin slice---I don't think the Roman Catholics teach that you should pray TO a saint, you should ask the saint to pray for you.

The Anchoress (who IS a Roman Catholic) had a pretty good article today, including pointing out that Pelosi didn't even get the calendar thing right.

And she is going to oversee the abortion bill (my how many ways does that term apply?) on the Sabbath in Lent.
