Being Grateful for Obama

Rob Port expresses his gratitude for the presidency of Barack Obama in a commentary piece at Say Anything:
What will be the legacy of President Barack Obama? How will future generations of Americans look back and remember our 44th President? The jury is still out for that evaluation, but if approval trends are any indication, the Presidency of Barack Obama will be a historic one. Not only is Barack Obama the first African American to be elected President, but it was during his four years in Office that the American people cast off their silence and indifference to make a profound declaration that would ultimately guide us in the next chapter of our political development: we reject statism. We reject socialism. We reject the growth of government at the expense of the private sector. We refuse to sacrifice our God-given liberties for assurances of welfare and security pledged by our politicians. We believe in the profit motive. We believe in the American dream. We want a return to limited government, and the Constitutional principles that founded this country.

Under President Barack Obama, literally millions of Americans have had enough. And they’re doing something about it. They’re organizing…they’re studying the Constitution and the Federalist Papers… they’re reading history and case law, and they’re showing up at rallies and meetings all across the country, to express their fears and frustrations. For 95% of them, it will be the first time they’ve ever demonstrated against anything. That’s how passionate you are, and that’s how powerful this movement is. A new awakening of American civil consciousness is underfoot; a social backlash to over 40 years of unmeasured liberalism, personified and extolled in the Presidency of Barack Obama. His leadership will lead us back to who we are. And to that end, we should be grateful he’s in office.
Amen, brother.

I second the "Amen."

I had a conversation with an immigrant woman today and guess what was uppermost in her mind? Obamacare. Very worried about it. She didn't come all the way to the US to support loafers with her taxes (she said).

If the GOP doesn't go after the immigrant vote, they're nuts. These are people who came here looking for freedom and opportunity! And they don't want to give all that up.

So far there has been a sum total of zero as far as the actual effect all that all the Sound and Fury has had on anything. Scott Brown being elected? ObamaCare passed anyway. Two vacancies on the SCOTUS? Two Radical Leftist Judges (one needs the formality of confirmation as of yet). Congressional Special elections? A wash so far. The commentary by Mr. Port was certainly inspiring but there is currently no effect to measure from all of the bluster. Everyone should stop feeling their oats and wait until they actually accomplish something before puffing up their collective chests. Learning the Constitution and The Federalist papers at the point in time that they are becoming moot is a little late to make much difference.

There's nothing better (to learn from) than a really good bad example.
