However, as usual, the press didn't tell the whole story. From TMZ:
The documents, which Whitman claims Nicky filled out and signed back in 2000 during her application for employment, appear to show that the maid stated under the penalty of perjury that she was a “lawful permanent resident” of the United States.This whole thing smelled like a set-up from the start. Gloria Allred is Jerry Brown's handmaiden.
Whitman also claims Nicky provided her with a social security card and valid California Driver’s License with her employment application … which Meg kept and has now handed over to TMZ.
Whitman has also issued a statement on the matter, saying … “After 9 years of faithful service, Nicky came to us in June 2009 and confessed that she was an illegal worker.” Whitman continues, “Nicky has falsified the hiring documents and personal information she provided to the employment agency that brought her to us in 2000.”
And, Whitman continues, “I believe Nicky is being manipulated by Gloria Allred for political and financial purposes during the last few weeks of a hotly contested election.”

Meg, Meg, Meg, where do I start, you have reportedly spent $119 million of your own money to get elected Governor but you personally went out, interviewed and hire yourself a 15 hour a week maid/ housekeeper instead of hiring a service like Maid Brigade, Merry Maids, ServiceMaster Clean, talk about being a cheap bastard. Meg you think you can buy the election, but what puzzles many is if you real cared and loved California then why not do your civic duty and vote, seems more rhetoric than anything else. So, according to you, it's Megs RESPONSIBILITY to help a felon (yeah, comin in this country illegally is a felony..stealing someones Social Security card is a felony..stealing someones Drivers License is a felony) obtain citizenship.

That’s our society. Politicians, judges, and other prominent officials wail against illegal immigration, then get caught employing them because they want cheap labor.
Everyone wants cheap labor, but god forbid any illegal immigrants get hired ! I don’t buy the ‘we were duped’ defense.
I think Whitman knew and/or just didn’t care until she began her campaign and figured out she had a problem that would hurt her. Whitman isn’t the first and won’t be the last to end up like this…
