The top Democrat on the House Homeland Security Committee says Thursday's hearing on Islamic radicalism could be used by terrorists to inspire a new generation of suicide bombers.King is confronting the issue. The number one source of terrorism in the world today is radical Islam and he's trying to better understand the issue and what we can do about it.
Rep. Bennie Thompson of Mississippi says in prepared remarks that Congress has a responsibility to make sure its words do not make problems worse.
Spectators packed the Capitol Hill hearing room and organizers were planning an overflow room to accommodate people clamoring to witness a hearing that inspired days of protests. New York Republican Rep. Peter King says the focus on the Islamic community is appropriate because Islamic terrorism is the primary threat facing the U.S.
The Dem apologists, through statements like Thompson's, admit that radical Islam is a danger to America, but they want to ignore it in the hopes the radicals will kill them last.
If Rep. King felt that U.S. Muslims were willing to put a stop to the radicals this hearing would never have happened. However, there are serious questions whether so-called "moderate" Muslims will actually stand up to the radicals in their religion...or even admit there are problems with a surprisingly large number of members of their faith.
And despite all the hand-wringing from the left, Americans support these hearings:
But a new Gallup poll shows that 52 percent of Americans say these hearings are appropriate, though support is split among party lines. It's a discussion we need to have, and if a bunch of nuts start blowing themselves up because a congressman dared to have this discussion, it just proves even more the threat that's out there.
Sixty-nine percent of Republicans say the hearings are the right thing, while only 40 percent of Democrats say they are appropriate. Independents' views track closely to the national average at 51 percent supporting the hearings. Overall, 49 percent of Democrats polled on Tuesday say the hearings are not appropriate, compared to 42 percent of independents and 23 percent of Republicans.
