However, that leaves many more big advertisers, like AT&T, Sheraton, HGTV, Toyota, Ford, Coca-Cola and many others who still advertise there. A campaign has been created to notify all those advertisers via their Twitter accounts that they're advertising on a site that mocks special needs kids.
A list has been generated of those companies and their Twitter handles that can be found here. This morning I quickly sent messages to every advertiser on the list, and given that those accounts are usually monitored by the company's marketing or P.R. people, you can expect a pretty quick response. Companies are pretty averse to this kind of customer contact.
If you have a Twitter account, join the fun and send them a note. This is what I sent to each advertiser (the link goes to the Wonkette piece):
Did you know you advertise on a site that mocks special needs kids? See this: http://bit.ly/gAhino Not good.I expect more advertisers will be dropping out soon.
UPDATE: At least 12 major companies have dropped their advertising at Wonkette, and now Wonkette has flushed the post down the memory hole. Of course, there are lots of people with screen grabs of the post so it will never go away.
