After a very late night watching the news and subsequent celebrations in New York and Washington, I'm very grateful that this morning our forces have buried the dead body of Osama bin Laden at sea and are not holding a living prisoner. Not just because of the revenge factor, but because of the incredible propaganda tool bin Laden would have been as a prisoner. You just know some lefty group of lawyers would have jumped to represent him and would have acted as mouthpieces to spread his poison to the crazies of the world who would have been inspired toward new attacks. A living bin Laden would have been a disaster for the world.
Because he was killed by our forces and the body captured, we are able to prove his death to those who will refuse to believe, and by burying him at sea there will be no bin Laden shrine that would have occurred had there been a burial on any piece of land in the world. All-in-all, probably the best possible outcome.
Of course, this doesn't end the war on terror, it only ends a chapter. And the crazies of the world now have a new martyr which will inspire some to attempt new attacks. Now is not the time to back off on our vigilance.
