The Weekly Standard's Jonathan Last continues the lonely work of tracking sales of the Chevy Volt, which appears to be a comparable workload to that of the Maytag repairman: "The July sales numbers are out and the Chevy Volt continues to electrify (get it?) the country. GM sold . . . 125 Volts last month!"Ah, but just think of the increase in self-righteousness those chosen few will feel as they shell out a ridiculous amount of money for a car that can go 40 miles on a charge.
Way back in March I made fun of the Volt for selling 281 units in February. Turns out, February was a good month. But wait, there's more! GM says they're going to increase production to 5,000 Volts per month in order to keep up with demand. You see, they claim that the reason the Volt isn't selling is that they can't keep enough cars on the lot. A GM spokeswoman recently claimed that they are "virtually sold out." Which is virtually true. Mark Modicacalled around his local Chevy dealers and found plenty of Volts waiting for an environmentally conscious driver to bring them home.
All told, GM has sold close to 2,700 Volts.
Katy Daly wonders if the car has earned the nickname, "The Electric Edsel."
Rush Limbaugh scoffs, "One hundred fifty more Chevrolet Volts have been sold. That's really gonna save the environment, isn't it? One hundred fifty more Chevrolet Volts have been sold. I don't know who bought 'em, maybe the government, doesn't matter. It's not enough to save the environment. Every car on the road could be a Chevrolet Volt and it wouldn't save the environment."

Still Not Enough Dolts to Buy the Volts
I actually saw a Chevy Volt driving around the other day - the first one I've ever seen. Apparently for most Americans, they've never seen even one because nobody is buying them (from Morning Jolt):

But, but, it comes with the Giant Industrial Size Package of SMUG!
(I plan to carry Post-It pads to write "Kick Me" on and stick them on the Volts I see--if I can recognize one.
Put the Post-it notes on the Smart Cars while you're at it.
Thanks.
