Members of a grassroots atheist group say they will tear out pages of the Bible at the Huntington Beach pier Saturday to point out what they say is immorality in the book many Christians base their faith on.Not for burning a Bible. You can do that all day and lots of people will defend your actions under the First Amendment.
Backyard Skeptics members plan to rip out pages with specific passages of the Bible that they say portray immoral biblical law, organizers say.
“We’re not there to burn the Bible or desecrate,” Bruce Gleason, director of Backyard Skeptics, said. “There are plenty verses in the Bible that if you did any of those things today, you’d be thrown in jail immediately.”
If these guys want to show true atheism they'd take on the Muslims too, but they're cowards. They know Christians will not cut their heads off. They know tearing up a Koran would immediately put their lives in danger.
It doesn't take courage to believe in nothing.
UPDATE: These guys were even more cowardly than I thought:
The group’s leader, Bruce Gleason, along with a fellow member, tore up sheets of paper printed with verses from the Bible to make their point.Except that they didn't tear out the pages of any Bible. They tore up pages with printed verses on them. What a bunch of losers.
One paper that was torn to pieces was printed with the verse, Matthew 5:29, which states: “So if your eye – even your good eye – causes you to lust, gouge it out and throw it away.” Another, which was torn, Corinthians 14:34, states “The women are to keep silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak.”
“We condemn all religious superstations, no matter what religion,” Gleason said. “I just want to tear out pages of the Bible that are illegal.”
