This is a secret that Democrats desperately hope black voters never figure out because when they do, the Democrats will be in big trouble. When a group votes as predictably for one party as blacks do for Democrats (usually 93%+ plus), they surrender whatever political power that group might have otherwise had.
Why? Democrats know they'll get 93%+ of the black vote so they can afford to take them for granted. Republicans know they'll lose 93%+ of the black vote so they can afford to ignore them. That's why when someone like Rep. James Clyburn, a prominent black congressman, says Newt Gingrich wants black kids to be janitors so they can be seen as servants for white kids, that statement, though it may get lots of play on MSNBC, will fail to have an real effect because it won't move any voters. The GOP and Newt can simply laugh at the foolish Clyburn.
Want to know what voting group has real power these days? Hispanics. A large chunk of their voters can still be swayed by political arguments and therefore both parties have a reason to pay attention to them. Their demands are much more likely to be attended to than those of black voters.
Of course, this cuts both ways. Evangelical Christians have a similar relationship with the GOP. Republican leaders feel they can take evangelicals for granted, though they don't vote in quite the percentages that blacks do for Dems. There are still a number of evangelicals who will cross the party lines to vote for Democrats and that's why Obama has suddenly shown a renewed interest in churchgoing and inserting evangelical language in his statements.
It's a shame black voters have been taught by their "leaders" that even though their plight worsens by the day under Dem leadership, the GOP would be even worse. After all, the GOP wants people to be independent of the government, not reliant on it. That's a message the black community just doesn't seem to want to hear.
In the meantime, the GOP should waste not a single dime this election cycle trying to woo black voters. With Obama on the ticket it won't work. Save the money, GOP. You might need it in some of the more Hispanic markets.

When groups are taken for granted, it's important too to make sure they show up on election day. The Republicans got hammered in '06 and '08 when their otherwise steadfast conservative base was infuriated with the out of control spending that increased the debt $2.9 trillion from 2000 to 2006.
Another six years on, the debt has gone up another $6.8 trillion, but at least those conservatives who skipped the '06 and '08 elections can hold their heads high and say "We showed them."
