A nearly naked man wearing a white cloth over his head and a purple scarf around his waist with his genitals exposed was arrested early Wednesday on suspicion of burglarizing an Allied Gardens church.Nowadays you'd think they'd be happy to have ANYBODY show up at a Presbyterian church.
Police were called to the Palisades Presbyterian Church on Birchwood Street off Orcutt Avenue about 4 a.m. after someone noticed suspicious activity, San Diego police Detective Gary Hassen said.
Officers formed a perimeter around the property and quickly located the suspect, identified as 39-year-old Joshua Baker. He was carrying a white trash can containing items from the church, Hassen said.
Initially police said he was wearing purple tights and a tutu, but later clarified what he had on.
Baker ran from officers after being spotted and scaled a 6-foot chain-link fence, losing all his coverings in the process, Hassen said. He was naked when he was apprehended.
He said a white pickup loaded with electronics, musical instruments and other items taken from the church was found parked on a nearby street.
