"Congratulations, You're a Housewife"

Hilary Rosen, the LGBT activist and DNC/Obama consultant, did something that so far no one else had been able to do - she got the conservative base to rally around Mitt Romney after her nonsensical attack on Mitt's wife Ann. Her statement about Ann Romney went like this:

His wife has actually never worked a day in her life...she's never really dealt with the kinds of economic issues that a majority of women in this country are facing in terms of how do we feed our kids? How do we send them to school? And why we worry about their future?"

I guess the fact that Ann raised five boys while also battling breast cancer and MS doesn't count as "work". What an idiot.

We shouldn't be surprised at this attack. After all, to many liberal women children (assuming they decide to give birth to them) are something to be raised by nannies or day care centers. They're never to interfere with the woman's own goals and dreams. To these women any other woman that chooses to stay home and raise kids is a failure - someone who abandoned her dreams to and wasted her potential. For women who make so much noise about being "pro-choice", they should don't like it when someone chooses a path differently than they did.

Frankly, I think a lot of them feel guilty that they put career before family.

Conservatives look at things very differently. Sure, there are plenty of conservative women who choose the career track, and more power to them. But there are also those who feel their highest calling is raising their kids. Nothing wrong with that either.

In my own case my wife desperately wanted to be home with our kids, but it looked like finances weren't going to cooperate. Through a creative use of maternity leave, vacation days and sick time, we were able to keep her home from my daughter's birth on October 30th through mid-February, but time was running out. With just two weeks to go before she was to return to work we didn't know what we were going to do. My wife had checked out some day care options and hated them all. We were getting a bit desperate.

One morning out of the blue my boss called me in. He told me he really liked the work I was doing and offered me a very unexpected and generous raise. I rushed back to my office and started running some numbers and realized my new income would be enough...barely...to keep the bills paid so she could stay home. I called her and said: "Congratulations, you're a housewife." You'd have thought she had won the lottery.

Things were a little tight for awhile, but we made do. It was more important to us to have her home with our daughter than that we have "stuff" we could have bought with her income. My wife was able to stay home for 10 years with our two kids and it was a blessing.

By the way, since Democrats think stay-at-home moms don't "work a day of their lives", how come my wife was so tired all the time?
