The top U.S. commander in Afghanistan said the planned burning of Qurans on Sept. 11 by a Florida church could put the lives of American troops in danger and damage the war effort.Drudge links to another story of Indonesian Muslims protesting outside the US Embassy because of this same stupid stunt. This is not Christianity that pastor of this 50 member congregation is demonstrating, but will be used to condemn Christianity worldwide. It's foolish arrogance.
Gen. David Petraeus said the Taliban would exploit the demonstration for propaganda purposes, drumming up anger toward the U.S. and making it harder for allied troops to carry out their mission of protecting Afghan civilians.
"It could endanger troops and it could endanger the overall effort," Gen. Petraeus said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. "It is precisely the kind of action the Taliban uses and could cause significant problems. Not just here, but everywhere in the world we are engaged with the Islamic community."
Hundreds of Afghans attended a demonstration in Kabul on Monday to protest the plans of Florida pastor Terry Jones, who has said he will burn the Quran on Sept. 11.
Afghan protesters chanted "death to America" and speakers called on the U.S. to withdraw its military convoy. Some of the protesters threw rocks at a passing military convoy, although officials told the rock-throwers to stop.

Crazy Florida Church Could Cost the Lives of American Soldiers
A couple of weeks ago I condemned the plans of a crazy Florida pastor to burn Korans on 9/11 in some sort of petulant display of what he thinks is Christianity. It's a stupid idea, doesn't advance the cause of Christ at all, and according to Gen. David Petraeus, could endanger our soldiers in Afghanistan:

I am unaware of anything in Christianity that sanctions desecration of the writings of anyone, let alone the holy document of another religion. It would be wholly appropriate for the skies to open upon the pastor attempting to ignite the koran and striking the pastor with a tazer... just enough to put him writhing on the ground.
Well maybe that was a bit much, but one can dream, right?
I might not agree with what this Florida pastor is doing, but saying that this will harm our servicemen and women is dumb. Just our believing in Jesus Christ is enough to set the Muslims on the warpath.
So what do we do? Cower in a corner for fear of having a fatwah called out on us? Hardly.
And again, though I don't agree at all with what that pastor is doing, I do remember a certain prophet, Elijah, telling 400 false prophets to call out Baal. Those false prophets didn't get tazered, they got fried nonetheless.
Our God is not to be trifled with.
It seems that most anything irritates or offends the Muslims. We saw their response to the NEWSWEAK cover story about flushing a Koran. I note that Americans saw pictures and videos of Muslims celebrating the 9/11 attack without threatening to inflict pain and suffering upon them.
