Final Word From the Mysterious GOP Operative

Jim Geraghty at the Kerry Spot had a final conversation with his mysterious GOP operative that has been giving him some inside scoop on how the GOP sees the campaign. Here's part of his final report (forgive the Star Wars references):
Had a second, follow-up conversation with Obi-Wan. This evening, he had spoken to his teacher/mentor, a longtime GOP strategist who played a key role in two victorious Republican presidential campaigns. (I guess the appropriate nickname for Obi-Wan's teacher would be Qui-Gon Jinn.)

Qui-Gon is not typically prone to optimism about a typical Republican’s chances on Election Day. But when Obi-Wan asked him for his assessment of Bush’s chances tomorrow, his answer came quickly and confidently.

“Bush will win, pretty decisively,” Qui-Gon said. “Maybe, worst case scenario, it's 51-49 [percent]. But everyone has looked at how the voters will decide too cerebrally. You walk into that voting booth, you pull the curtain behind you, and you’re alone. It’s the centerpiece of our democratic process, and voters take that responsibility seriously. It’s almost a religious experience, a sacred rite. And they’re going to go with who’s going to keep them safe. Who’s been tested. It’s an emotional, gut reaction.”

There's more information at the Kerry Spot. (I wonder, will the Kerry Spot morph into the Hillary Spot should Kerry lose??)
