Times Square Car Bomb May Have Comedy Central Connection

Could the attempted car bomb in New York City's Times Square been connected to the recent South Park episode featuring the Prophet Mohammed?  Mark Steyn looks at it:

...but sometimes he'll still eat you first. While the initial US reports on the Times Square car bomb concentrated on the by now traditional denials that this was anything to do with terrorism and, even if it was, it was "amateurish", the Telegraph in Britain was the first to note the parking space:

The dark green Nissan Pathfinder with tinted windows was parked near the junction of 45th Street and Broadway.

The location is also adjacent to the Viacom building, fuelling speculation that it might be linked to the company's controversial South Park cartoon which recently depicted Prophet Muhammad in a bear suit.

The important thing to remember about Iraq and Afghanistan is that, from the jihad's point of view, they're sideshows: The real battlefield is New York and Chicago and London and Paris.

The Jawa Report also looks at the South Park connection.  It's easy to call it "amateurish" is easy when it doesn't explode.  Had it worked as planned there could be hundreds of families missing members this morning.

On Sunday, police and F.B.I. officials were also investigating a 911 call placed at around 4 .a.m. on Sunday, several officials said. The caller, who one official said sounded intelligent, admonished the 911 dispatcher not to interrupt him until he was finished and then said there would be a massive explosion soon and the car in Times Square was only a diversion.

The call came from a payphone at West 53rd Street and Seventh Avenue, which detectives have since dusted for fingerprints, the officials said.

West 53rd and Seventh is where the Sheraton Hotel and Towers is located, and that's where I stayed during my New York City trip in 2007. I walked down to Times Square on the Saturday night I was there and I'm sure the scene was much like it was last night. Very crowded with people, but very safe.
