Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) told the Des Moines Register that if she decides to run for president she would do it without any thoughts of a second term.One of the problems with 2nd term presidents is they immediately become lame-ducks the moment they're re-elected. Without the threat of another election they're free to wander all over the place as far as their politics are concerned, and the later in the term they go the more likely the opposition party will just ignore them. Promising to be a lame-duck from the start is no way to become a political reformer.
Said Bachmann: "I'm a principled reformer, and my goal is to see the country turn around. I'm also committed to being a one-term president if that's what it takes in order to turn things around, because this is not about a personal ambition."
