Republican presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich's campaign manager, senior strategists and key aides in early delegate-selection states all resigned on Thursday, a mass exodus that leaves his hopes of winning the Republican nomination in tatters.Yeah, they wanted to win.
In response, Gingrich posted a message to his followers on Facebook: "I am committed to running the substantive, solutions-oriented campaign I set out to run earlier this spring. The campaign begins anew Sunday in Los Angeles."
Rick Tyler, Gingrich's (now former) spokesman, told The Associated Press that he, campaign manager Rob Johnson and several senior strategists resigned, along with aides in the early primary and caucus states of Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina.
NBC News confirmed that several top aides left Gingrich's campaign on Thursday.
Key strategist Dave Carney also resigned, telling NBC: "The professional team came to the realization that the direction of the campaign they sought and Newt's vision for the campaign were incompatible."
