The Attack of the Spoiled, Whiny 20-Something Future Occupier

Ever wonder where the Occupy movement gets its recruits?  I think I saw one on the plane coming home from Texas yesterday.  First, a little backstory.

We had quite an odyssey trying to get home.  A strong storm system came through the Rockport area early Monday morning and a line of very strong thunderstorms developed in the Houston area and just marched one-by-one right over Hobby Airport where we needed to make our connection.  Consequently, we spent 2 1/2 hours sitting in a jet on the ground in Corpus Christi waiting for clearance to go to Houston.  We weren't even on our scheduled flight because it had been canceled.  We were added to a flight that had been diverted to Corpus because of the storms.

We finally got out of there and landed in very soggy Houston with heavy rain still falling (and apparently a tornado a few miles south of the city) and quickly transferred to our next flight which was just about to board. After getting on and settled in we waited...and waited.  The pilot who was to take us to Los Angeles was also stuck in the air traffic mess while coming in on another flight.  He had landed but couldn't taxi to the gate because they were all full.  He finally got aboard and we thought we were ready to go.

Not so fast.  Turns out a maintenance spotted a problem with a tire and it would have to be changed.  After a couple of blown tire incidents in Sacramento a week or so ago, I think Southwest is taking a careful look at those things right now.  The tire change didn't take all that long and we finally got away from the gate about 2 hours late.

Now, back to the future Occupier.  Upon arrival in Los Angeles, only an hour late thanks to making up some time in the air, little mister spoiled whiny 20-something got on his cellphone and started loudly complaining that the flight was late and NOBODY told him what was going on.

To his mommy.  Yes, that's right, he was whining to him mommy.

He was just so mad he was going to write a nasty letter to Southwest.  His tone of voice was so irritating it was all I could do to keep from getting up and slapping the stupid out of him.  After all the grief we'd gone through all day - none of which was Southwest airline's fault, by the way - this little p#### was so mad he told his mommy on them.  This kid has a future in the Occupy movement.  The sense of entitlement in this idiot is very strong.

I hope life slaps him around in ways I couldn't and maybe one day he'll grow up.

I work at a community college. You would be stunned at how immature some of these students are. To make things worse, sometimes the parents call and complain on behalf of their precious offspring. When I was in college, I was treated as an adult and had to communicate with the other adults in charge. I'm starting to think that mandatory military service wasn't such a bad thing after all...

I'll second the motion.
